In this case report, we present a patient of lung cancer with an unusual pattern of FDG uptake on the rim of the gallbladder in FDG positron emission tomography (PET) for staging his lung malignancy. The findings in subsequent ultrasonography signified possible cholecystitis for the patient. Although lacking clinical symptom with our patient, it is very likely that asymptomatic cholecystitis have occurred and resulted in the increased FDG uptake of his gallbladder wall.

2-[18 F]fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography (PET) findings of chronic expanding intrapericardial hematoma: a potential interpretive pitfall that mimics a malignant tumor
A 77-year-old man who had undergone mitral valve replacement 5 years previously presented with an intrapericardial mass. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed that the mass lesion contained hematoma components. Positron-emission tomography (PET) with 2-[¹⁸F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) revealed uptake in the peripheral rim of the mass. These findings suggested the presence...

INTRODUCTION Chronic expanding hematoma is a rare persistent hematoma that can sometimes be misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor due to its clinical and radiological features. CASE PRESENTATION A 42-year-old Japanese man with a large mass in his leg, suggestive of malignancy, presented to our hospital. He had been aware of the leg swelling for the last eight years. A magnetic resonance imaging s...
متن کاملIssues pertaining to PET imaging of liver cancer
Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging using 2-deoxy-2-[F-18]fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) has proven valuable in the diagnosis, staging and restaging for many cancers. However, its application for liver cancer has remained limited owing in part to the relatively high background uptake of the tracer in the liver plus the significant variability of the tumor specific uptake in liver cancer among pa...
متن کامل18F-FDG PET/CT-based early treatment response evaluation of nanoparticle-assisted photothermal cancer therapy
Within the field of nanoparticle-assisted photothermal cancer therapy, focus has mostly been on developing novel heat-generating nanoparticles with the right optical and dimensional properties. Comparison and evaluation of their performance in tumor-bearing animals are commonly assessed by changes in tumor volume; however, this is usually a late-occurring event. This study implements 2-deoxy-2-...
متن کاملA 19F NMR study of 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-galactose in mice.
The metabolic pathway of 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-galactose (FDGal) in mice was studied by 19F NMR. Efficient accumulation of FDGal in liver was demonstrated by NMR, which is consistent with the results of Ishiwata et al. using radioactive 18FDGal. The new discovery is that this fluorinated hexose was converted to 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) through UDP-FDGal and UDP-FDG apparently by the action...
